about

Banter/3.1 existed from early 2006 until late 2008 and represents an incredibly prolific artistic period for me. In that time I recorded four full length albums, one ep, and a compilation under the b/3.1 banner, as well as a one-off under the moniker Banter2.007 (pronounced banter two point double oh seven). Additionally, I was well on my way to creating the 114 Song Boxed Set by the time I decided to retire the Banter/3.1 name and aesthetic.

The sound of b/3.1 changed greatly in those two and a half years. The first album, Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (not represented on this compilation) was primarily created using the shitty onboard DAW of a cheap Yamaha, 14 New Songs, Songs of War and Gardening, and Has Its Own Wrench represent the Alesis QS8 / ProTools era, and Medicinal Reverb was my first foray into Reason. However, the underlying aesthetic remained the same: record backing tracks intended to support a live improvisation.
